should last over 20 years, simple to bash in.
after 23 years the airer became wobbly because the socket had rusted away.the new socket fits the old airer perfectly. Unless the ground is hard and dry, you can drive it into the ground. Cut into the ground with sharp spade, then i probed the target spot with a steel bar a couple of times until i missed the stones or was able to remove them. Once the route was clear enough, then insert the socket and drive it in with a lump hammer onto a piece of scrap timber, which was shattered by the time the socket was flat to the ground.For someone else the installation was much harder. When the ground is too hard to dig, due to stones or concrete hardened clay, you need to buy a heavy lump hammer and steel spike and bash away, soak with water, until a hole is chiselled out of the ground, which is like a mining operation! Make sure you go deep enough for the socket – you won’t have time to deepen it once the concrete goes in. Fill hole with water and pour in 2 bags of postcrete, which sets really fast, so you need to get the socket in fast, immediately, put in the airer, again immediately, and get it plumb, hold for a few minutes and have a rest.

Let me tell you, the Brabantia Metal Ground Spike is an absolute beast. Itâs sturdy, well-made, and even comes with a handy closure cap that makes it lavish into the lawn but makes it easy to find again. Plus, itâs corrosion-resistant and galvanized, so you know itâs built to last through all the elementsârain, shine, or a full-on apocalypse.Now, letâs get to the fun part: installing it. If you think youâre going to tap this bad boy into the ground with a few gentle taps of a mallet, think again. Try hammering it into a summer-baked rock-solid lawn, and youâre in for the kind of workout no gym can prepare you for. Iâm pretty sure my neighbors thought I was reenacting some medieval jousting scene with how hard I was going at it. Sweat was flying, mallet in hand, and I might have considered renting a jackhammer at one point.BUT once itâs in? This thing isnât moving an inch. Itâs like Excalibur, firmly lodged and ready to hold your washing line, parasol, or whatever else you throw at it. Once I finally got it into the ground, it was worth every drop of sweat. Itâs now standing proud, and I feel like Iâve conquered something. **Great product**, but be prepared for a bit of a battle if your ground is as solid as mine. Just make sure to stretch first!

Missing the red cover cap
Great item, needed a new one as am moving and it is difficult to get these spikes out of the ground again. So bought this one to replace it. Regretfully it was delivered without the red cap to cover the hole when not in use. A very usefull item when the spike is in in grass. There is no way to identify this issue and you need to return the item and order a new one.Got mine cheap so probably not worthwhile. The description of the item not correct, great item but not complete so therefore three stars only.

Great spike
Last spike lasted almost 3 years split in half.these are easy to dig around to move and take out and move if in grass and airer starts to slant. Use piec3 wood over top of the spike to hammer in metal chunky mallet. Takes me a while replacing to a new one, being disabled to get it totally in the ground I have to take breaks. Takes me about 45 mins. You can buy one for concrete but I’d rather not fill my garden with concrete. I like this brand theircairers are good quality as are their ground spikes

Das Teil hält wirklich bombenfest im Boden!Wir hatten vorher eine Verankerung aus Plastik, die in Boden “geschraubt” wurde – die hat zwar im ersten Jahr auch noch gut gehalten – aber aufgrund der Form hat sich die Konstruktion dann noch immer weiter über die Monate durch Wind und Regen geneigt (wir nutzen es für unsere Wäschespinne).Die längliche H-Form dieser Verankerung sitz einfach bombenfest im Boden und kann sich gar nicht mehr so neigen, wie eine einfach in den Boden geschraubte Halterung – sind höchst zufrieden mit dieser Lösung!Die Halterung besteht komplett aus dickem Metall (ausser innen befindet sich ein Plastik Mantel für die Halterung der Stange) und fühlt sich dadurch schwer und hochwertig an.Die Halterung kann ausserdem komplett bündig in den Boden geschlagen werden (war bei unserer alten Halterung auch nicht möglich).Dadurch kann ich die Wäschespinne aus der Halterung nehmen und einfach bündig mit dem Rasenmäher drüber fahren – sehr praktisch!Das einzige, worum ich mir bei dem Teil Sorgen mache, ist, wie ich es irgendwann mal wieder aus dem Boden raus bekomme 😀 (Aber da muss dann halt die Schaufel / der Spaten rann)Achtung: Die Halterung wird in den Boden “geschlagen” – wenn ihr das mit einem Hammer (wie ich) macht, legt einen Schutz darüber (zB ein Holzbrett), sonst beschädigt / verbiegt ihr die Konstruktion.
